How to Pick a Dress to Go with Graduation Robes

Almost all schools today require their graduates to wear graduation attire on their graduation day. So, you need to follow the regulations of the graduation. If you want to reap the rewards of your hard work, then you should be in uniform with your batch mates. You should wear the prescribed academic regalia if you want to join everyone on this special day and get your diploma.
Know What Graduation Gown Is Required
Before you can start looking for a dress or a suit to go underneath your graduation gown, it is important that you find out first what the prescribed gown is first. For instance, most schools require a black graduation gown. This means you can virtually wear any color of dress. However, you should also remember that many graduation gowns run. If it is of poor quality, its dye can stain your dress if it is light colored. That is why a darker dress is usually preferred underneath a dark graduation robe. A light colored graduation robe may be translucent, on the other hand. And so you have to choose a dress that will not show on the surface. Otherwise, it will not look good. If there are bright prints, your graduation gown would not look good either.
Of course, it’s important that you get the right graduation gown because it is your uniform to the graduation ceremonies. If you want to belong to the group, you should wear the right graduation gown. After all, it is a requirement of the school that should be followed.
Choosing the Dress
The gentlemen usually have an easier time choosing their suit or shirt and pants. They can choose a black coat, a white shirt, a tie and black or even khaki trousers. Some would just wear a dress shirt and a tie especially during the warm weather. It’s usually more appropriate to choose light colored shirts whether you are wearing a light colored or black graduation gown. While some schools do not require wearing a tie, wearing one usually looks better.
On the other hand, women would have to choose an appropriate dress. The first thing to remember is to get a dress that is shorter than your graduation gown. When wearing light colored college graduation gowns, it’s important that you dress color and design would blend as well. When wearing black graduation gowns, it would be better to wear dark colored dress. But then if the weather is warm, you may opt for cooler fabrics too.
Shoes and Accessories
Your choice of shoes is also important as your feet would be visible when you march on your graduation day especially when you go up the stage. It will complete the look of your graduation getup. But then even if you want to look your best, the women should not wear very high heels on this day. It could be hazardous as you could slip in grass or slippery flooring.
The gentlemen, on the other hand, only need to be in formal shoes. A pair of leather loafers may do as long as it is cleaned and shined for the graduation day. By looking your best, you will truly be able to enjoy and celebrate your accomplishment on this day.
